Moseying Down South

My lady friend and I like to go places.  This time around, we decided spending five days together in New Orleans would be a good idea.  And it was! Although we were glad to be back home after it was over.

Like pretty much all our vacations, it centered primarily around the food of New Orleans, which means a lot of beignets, creole food, and other delicious items.

We arrived in New Orleans on a Saturday night, and we ended up going to the Acme Oyster House due to its close proximity.  There was a line, but it moved quickly and we ended up sitting at the oyster bar itself.  No pictures due to the lighting, but the oysters were fresh and delicious, shucked just moments before we ate them with a little tabasco and lemon juice.  Highly recommended.

The next day, we went to Cafe du Monde, where the line was long but again, moved quickly.

Cheap but pretty good beignets.

For comparison, we would go to Cafe Beignet on Bourbon Street the day after.  Cass ended up having beignets.

I had gumbo.  For once, she made the better decision.

Another one of our favorites was Majoria’s Commerce Restaurant in the Central Business District.  Their sausages were excellent, as were their red beans and rice.  We ended up going twice-once for lunch, and once for breakfast.

One of our favorite things to do when eating out is to order small plates.  This gives us a chance to try new things that we otherwise wouldn’t, and to expand our palates.  Hence the delicious items below from Domenica:

Our favorite place, however, has to be Cochon Butcher.  Cass had a hankering for Mac n’ Cheese, while I just wanted some good boudin:

For more pictures on what we did in the Big Easy, you can look either my Instagram or Cass’.  Overall, a trip for the ages, though we don’t really want to go back anytime soon (five days is a long time, man).
